Parakeets

They are quite easy to tame, some easier than others. But you can see the different personalities that each individual bird has. They'll sing to music, mess with objects, cuddle up to you, and will keep you entertained and attached to them. Cage maintenance is easy to clean up and a bag of food will last awhile.
